on “U.S. Department of Justice / Federal Bureau of Investigations / Office of the Director” stationery, August 16, 2000, to Congressman John Dingell, lengthy letter regarding Dingell’s inquiry “concerning the recent outages of the Interstate Identification Index (III), which occurred on May 11-14, 17 and 22, 2000.  These outages resulted in loss of service to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies…”
Freeh goes in depth about the outages and the actions taken to rectify the issue. An unusually long and detailed letter with very interesting content.
