1776, Delaware, 20 shillings, John McKinly, first President of Delaware signed

This is an original colonial note; “TWENTY SHILLINGS. THIS Indented Bill shall pass current for Twenty Shillings, according to an Act of General Assembly of the Counties of Newcastle, Kent and Sussex, upon Delaware, passed in the 15th Year of the Reign of His Majesty Geo. the 3d. Dated the 1st Day of Jan. 1776. XXs.” ; Borders contain: “Twenty Shillings” ; Verso: “To Counterfeit is Death. Printed by JAMES ADAMS, 1776.” Signatures include John McKinly and Boaz Manlove. Center signature of Thomas Collins has faded with only remnants visible. Note is in extremely good condition, one center fold.
John McKinly (February 24, 1721 – August 31, 1796) was an American physician and politician from Wilmington, Delaware. He was a veteran of the French and Indian War, served in the Delaware General Assembly, was the first elected President of Delaware, and for a time was a member of the Federalist Party.
On February 12, 1777 the General Assembly elected him to be Delaware’s first Chief Magistrate or President and he served until he was replaced on September 22, 1777. As President, he was immediately faced with an insurrection by Loyalists, particularly in Sussex County.
Boaz Manlove was a notorious Tory who exchanged loyalties between the English and United States and fled to Nova Scotia to avoid punishment for treason.
