to operate the vehicle when Cadillac and Oldsmobile introduced the "Hydra-Matic drive in 1940.
It was an entirely new development that made “driving so infinitely simple and easy as to be almost unbelievable”.
Oldsmobile announced in its brochures, which touted no stalling, no bucking when starting, instant acceleration on tap, improved getaway from stops, even flow of power at all speeds, better traction on snow and ice, and less fatigue from driving.
Hydra-Matic Drive was almost as important as electric cars.
