    1843 New York Supreme Court Document. filed Sept 26, 1843 in case involving Simon Newcomb and William Davis for damages of .42. It is signed by Supreme Court clerk Charles Humphreys (1792-1850) A captain in the War of 1812 and eventually began his law practice in Ithaca. Ge served as an Adams Republican in the United States House of Representatives 1825-1827. He later was president of Ithaca, 1828-1829, Surrogate of Tompkins County, 1831-1834, member of the New York Assembly 1834-1836 and 1842, serving as Speaker 1835-1836. From 1843-1847 Clerk of the New York Supreme Court. This file is sent to Samuel Cheever (1787-1874) well known Salem, Troy and Albany lawyer as well as Commissioner of the Boston and Albany Railroad, surveyor, commissioner to lay out city of Brooklyn and an important farmer and member of the State Agricultural Society. nice New York mid-century item.
