Description

This is an original document group of three documents, first dated 1719, Taunton, Mass; where James Burt has sold to David Ames of Bridgewater, one half share of a swamp in Taunton, signed by James Burt, Jonathan Howard Jr. and David Turner. Document is 9x12, totally encapsulated in plastic, else in overall good condition.
JAMES BURT. James Burt, although not an original proprietor of Taunton, was here quite early, and was appointed surveyor of roads in March, 1645; also in 1654. He took the oath of fidelity in 1657, but does not appear to have been admitted as a freeman. He probably was not wholly in accord with the prevailing religious opinions here, for we find that in 1648 or '49 he received a power of attorney from Francis Doughty, the minister, who was compelled to go away from Taunton for opposing the formation of the first church here, and for other misdemeanors. Mr. Doughty probably regarded James Burt as being more friendly to him than some others, and therefore authorized him to convey the land he owned here. It is also significant that several generations of James Burt's descendants were staunch adherents of the church of England. His home lands were on the westerly side of the Taunton river.....
Second document dated where John Savage, merchant of York, Maine has sold a third part of a messuage in Boston to Ezekiel Savage...signed on third page by Henry Alline as recorder of deeds.Document is 9x12, folds, minor water stain, else in overall very good condition.
Third document dated 1767, Raynham, Mass., where Amariah Hall has sold to Nathaniel Shaw a plot of land in Raynham, signed at bottom by Amariah Hall, Hannah Hall, Reuben Hall and Susannah Hall, signed on back by James Williams and Zephaniah Leonard. Document is 8x11, acid free repairs on back, else in overall fair condition.
